I specialise in transforming discarded or aged fabrics and precious items into original works of 2D and 3D art. I particularly enjoy combining print, collage and stitch to highlight the clarity of the line and produce subtle and minimalistic, yet evocative, works. My inspiration often comes from designs of the 1920s to 1950s - e.g. the work of Enid Marx, Kathleen Mann and Natalia Goncharova - as well as vintage book illustrations, particularly of nursery rhymes. I have a special affinity for Russian design and folk art as I studied the language and literature and both lived and travelled there extensively during the 1990s. You can see more of my work at www.winifredtaylor.com This piece is inspired by Russian folk art motifs symbolising fertility and life. Sold.
